Purpose

  1. What is the purpose of your existence?
  2. Is there Purpose in your Life?
  3. What are you living for?
  4. What is the most important thing in your life?
  5. Will your anchor hold, and is your life built on a solid foundation?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ¶ To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

What is Purpose?

-The reason for which something exists or is done.

-The result of intention, or desire put into action.

Here we have purpose in action:

Daniel 1:8 ¶ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Daniel made a choice that required action.

Daniel was a man that lived a life of purpose.

Daniel depended daily on the power of God.

Where are the Daniels of today?

There are many people today that have a desire to do what is right, but do not have the power within to live a holy life.

Why was Daniel thrown into the lion’s den?

…..because he chose to serve God, regardless of what it would cost him.

Daniel’s life was not a life full of self pity, selfishness, complaining, complacency, and self will.

Daniel had every reason in the world to live a life of bitterness and ill will….but he did not.

Daniel made choices that produced right action, and a life of purpose.

What is the purpose of your existence?

Does God make mistakes?

Did God make a mistake when he created you?

Why do we struggle with purpose?

…because our will stands in the way of God’s will.

As long as a person is living in sin, there will be a constant struggle for meaningful purpose.

You were created to bring glory to God.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Is God calling you? ….and what is His purpose?

Have you experienced Jesus knocking at the door of your heart?

If you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, or maybe you have accepted him but have become cold or have walked astray…..Will you let Him in?….Will you repent of your sin and allow him to take control?

2Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

God is/has called you.

Salvation is for all who willingly repent and believe on Jesus Christ.

2Peter 3:9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The Purpose of your existence is that, through His power, you can bring ultimate glory to a Holy, Just, Merciful, and Righteous God.

Because we are image bearers of God, He desires relationship with you!

Is there Purpose in your Life?

1Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

What are you living for?

Where is my heart?

Where is my treasure?

Does my life mainly revolve around myself, my problems, my happiness, my this and my that?

Isaiah 55:6

6 ¶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Matthew 6:19-24

19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

It is impossible to serve sin and the pleasures of sin, and to serve God at the same time.

It is very possible to live a life of misguided purpose.

What is the most important thing in your life?

If you would have a choice between two things:

  1. Wealth, happiness, pleasure, good health, and friends but at the end of life spend eternity in Hell, separated from God.
  2. Sickness, poverty, heartache, sorrow, suffering, and being misunderstood, but at the end of life, enjoy the pure bliss of Heaven, being in the presence of God for all eternity.

Which one would you choose?

Does eternity matter to you?

We can say that we are living for eternity or that eternity matters, but our fruit will prove whether we mean it or not.

We will not be judged by our own standard, but by God’s holiness and righteousness.

Hebrews 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Will your anchor hold?

Do you understand the purpose of Jesus, as our Saviour?

We were all born in sin.

We were all sinners.

And we all needed forgiveness and a way to God and eternal life.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I cannot, of myself, work my way to heaven but it is only by the power of God within me, that my life will bear fruit and I can live in holiness and righteousness.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God is not looking for brilliant men, is not depending upon eloquent men, is not shut up to the use of talented men in sending His Gospel out in the world. God is looking for broken men, for men who have judged themselves in the light of the cross of Christ. When He wants anything done, He takes up men who have come to the end of themselves, and whose trust and confidence is not in themselves, but in God.
