Deception…

 

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

What is deception?

-deception is the act of being deceived. It is something that deceives or is in intended to deceive.

What does it mean to be deceived?

-to be misled by a false appearance or statement.

 

What does it mean to be deceitful?

-to be given to deceiving, intending to deceive, misleading.

Let’s take a look at two examples of people who either were deceived or deceived others.

Eve was deceived by the serpent in the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 3:1-13

Here are a few things that took place in the garden:

-God instructed Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

-Satan temped Eve and planted a seed of doubt. “Yea, hath God said?”

-Adam and Eve willfully and deliberately rejected God’s command and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

-Their eyes were open and they were no longer innocent.

-They hid from God because they were ashamed.

-They were ensnared by fear.

-God judged them and sent them out of the garden.

Ananias and Sapphira

Acts 5:1-11

-Was it wrong for Ananias to keep back a part of the money from the land that he sold?

-What did Ananias and Sapphira do that was wrong?

The Law of Sowing and Reaping

-What is the law of sowing and reaping?

-Is what I feed on or fill my mind with, important?

-Do my actions have consequences?

-Do Ideas have consequences?

Galatians 6:7-10

What a man sows, that is what he will also reap.

-good for good

-evil for evil

If I invest time in Bible study and in prayer, and allow God to fill me with His Spirit and give me His life, I will reap Peace, Joy, and true Fulfillment.

But if I do nothing or pursue the things of that this world has to offer, ( such as: pornography, sex, pleasure, wealth, fads, fashions, entertainment, and so on) I will be left spiritually bankrupt, empty, without peace, without joy, without true fulfillment, lost, hopeless, unsatisfied, and so on.

1Corinthians 6:9  ¶ Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

1Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Be not deceived

Here Jesus is speaking to His disciples on the mount of Olives.

Matthew 24:3-14, 24

Matthew 24:4 ¶ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Luke 13:22-30

The Strait Gate

24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

-There is only one way to God (through the shed blood of Jesus Christ) and it is for those who have had their sins covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, are walking in newness of life, and have endured to the end.

Pride deceives

Galatians 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

The last days

2 Timothy 3:1-7, 10-17

2Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

 

A person that is deceived does not know it.

In order to not be deceived we need to:

-trust in God

-believe in God

-put our faith in God alone

-accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior

-walk in newness of life  (the life that comes from Jesus)

-study the word of God

-live in obedience to His Word.

-live by the power of the Holy Spirit

-test my thoughts and beliefs to see if they are in line with the word of God.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
